As with any major rebuild, you will need more than average mechanical ability and some specialized tools along with factory shop, component and assembly line manuals for your update corvette suspension. There are manuals that are offered that are a must because they will supply you with removal as well as installation procedures for your new corvette suspension along with all of the correct torque specifications. Here are a few things you will need to keep in mind when you are looking at redoing your corvette suspension:
Some components that that are required for the front corvette suspension rebuild include springs, power steering pump, ram, valve, hoses, idler arm, drag link, tie rods, sleeves, control arm bushings, bumpers, stabilizer bar bushings, end kits, shocks, and all of the mounting hardware kits. You will also need a shop, a component and assembly manual for the year of your Corvette, a hydraulic jack, jack stand, and tools. You will need to jack the front of the Corvette up and let the front corvette suspension hang. Then remove the wheel, caliper and rotor. If you are not replacing the caliper, you can make a hook out of mechanical wire or even a coat hanger, and let the caliper and hose hang from the frame. You may have to remove the entire steering linkage as one unit. It is much easier to do it this way. Start by using a tie rod separator to separate the outer tie rods from the spindle arm. Next, loosen the power steering pump hoses from the control valve and let them drain into a container. This of course is an abbreviated version of what is required in order to rebuild a corvette suspension. However, the last thing you will need to do is to check the toe-in of the front corvette suspension. The front wheels should have a toe-in of 1/8 to 3/8 of an inch. This will allow you to drive the car without doing any real damage to the front tires and corvette suspension. After this is done, your first stop should be the local Corvette alignment shop.
